If you’ve been following along on our family journey, you know I’m a long-time fan of Misfits Market (check out my full love story with them here). What started as a way to get affordable organic produce has evolved into my go-to source for pretty much everything in our kitchen. But now? They’ve gone and done something that’s got my youngest kids excited about grocery shopping. Yes, you read that correctly.
When Grocery Shopping Meets Fashion (Sort Of)
Recently, Misfits Market sent me some items from their limited-edition collection with Everybody.World – a “Salty” dad hat and two mini totes. Initially, I thought, “Salty, is that what they think of me?” Just kidding… I picked it out 😁. But I seriously underestimated the impact these mini totes would have on my two youngest daughters and the perfect timing of their arrival.
Within approximately 3 seconds of opening the Misfits box, those mini totes were claimed, named, and designated as “chicken purses.” Why chicken purses? Well, that leads me to our family’s latest adventure…
The Great Chicken Experiment
We’re currently about 19 days away from having tiny dinosaurs (aka baby chicks) running around our house. The eggs are in the incubator, and while my two older kids show some interest, my two youngest daughters check on them approximately 47 times per day. The excitement level is off the charts with those two! They are already picking out names for every potential chick.
When these adorable mini totes arrived from Misfits Market, the girls immediately decided they were the perfect size for collecting eggs – despite the fact that we don’t actually have any eggs to collect yet and won’t for months. In the world of a 5 and 8-year-old, preparation is key.
According to the product description, each tote is “perfectly sized to fit 2 delicata squash, 4 chocolate bars, 2 pounds of lemons, or 12 miniature jams.” Or, as my daughters have determined, “exactly 10 chicken eggs!”
Sustainable Style That Actually Matters
What I particularly appreciate about these products (beyond their unexpected role in our chicken-raising journey) is the thought behind their creation. They’re thoughtfully made from a unique blend of recycled scraps (50% recycled cotton) and sustainably sourced cotton (42%), with 8% mixed recycled fibers.
Everybody.World, Misfits Market’s partner for this collection, works with farms that support fair-wage workforces and closed-loop supply chains. It’s the same commitment to sustainability and reducing waste that initially drew me to Misfits Market for my groceries.
Plus, for every item sold, $1 gets donated to ReFED, a nonprofit working to reduce food waste in our food system. As someone who’s built a career around respecting food, that’s a mission I can get behind.
Speaking of Food Waste & Savings…
While we’re on the topic of Misfits Market, I have to share my latest purchased price for eggs: large organic pasture-raised eggs for $6.79 per dozen. If you’ve bought eggs lately, you know that’s almost time-travel to a good 6 months ago pricing. Most stores are charging $10+ for comparable eggs as I saw with my own eyes several weeks ago during a rare visit to the traditional grocery store. Nothing against them… I get a good price from Misfits Market, and it’s more convenient for me.
This find feels particularly serendipitous given our impending chicken adventure. Though I should note that our chickens are for the experience and teaching my kids about where food comes from – the economic egg-savings calculations don’t quite work out when you factor in chicken feed and the coop I’ll inevitably end up building when the kids get attached to their feathered friends.
Why I Keep Coming Back to Misfits Market
As I’ve shared before, I live 25 miles from the nearest decent grocery store with organic options. That 50-mile round trip costs me time and gas money. Having Misfits Market deliver straight to my door saves both at the very least.
But beyond convenience, it’s their commitment to sustainability that keeps me loyal. From rescuing “imperfect” produce to now offering sustainable apparel and accessories, they consistently align with values I want to instill in my kids.
When a company can make my girls excited about both sustainability AND our upcoming chicken adventure, they’ve won a special place in my heart (and remain as my weekly shopping routine).

When you’re 19 days away from having baby chicks and have four kids with varying levels of excitement, having easy access to quality groceries becomes an essential coping mechanism.
As always, I only share products I genuinely use and love. My commitment is to you – my readers and followers – not to any particular brand. But when I find something that makes both my wallet and my kids happy? That’s worth sharing.
Happy cooking (and perhaps chicken-raising)!
P.S. Stay tuned for updates on our chick hatching adventure. If the excitement level of my daughters is any indication, it’s going to be quite the journey. I am even considering going live on YouTube when hatching time rolls around. You’re gonna want to be subscribed for that notification… It’s so fun to watch that miracle of life!
